"I'm sticking with this house because it intrigues me. I want to be able to tell people that I helped build it." Jason H., framer.
Four years ago, I stood on a vacant lot at 1005 Brooks Street in Ann Arbor, wondering whether it fit our needs for a new home. It was within walking distance of downtown, which was a definite plus. It was in an established neighborhood with a mixture of homes. But what really sold me was the light.
Despite being in a neighborhood with mature trees, the 62 foot by 180 foot lot was situated in a way that gave it full access to the low winter sun. As I stood there in the middle of the lot on a cold December day, I realized that this was it. We made the decision to buy the lot and build a house.
The final result is magical. We love our house - it's exactly what we wanted, and it has a unique feel to it that we grow to enjoy more each day.
The process to get there was one of the hardest things that either of us had ever done.
We'd like to share that story with you.
